Abstract

Urban waste management in Indonesia is characterized by fragmented value chains, information asymmetry, uncertain collection, and weak coordination between households as material sources and informal collectors. This study proposes an on-demand platform model integrating a socio-technical perspective with System Dynamics to strengthen an inclusive and sustainable recycling value chain. The research design follows an explanatory sequential mixed-methods approach comprising system exploration, empirical testing of adoption factors using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), and System Dynamics modeling and simulation. The socio-technical model examines perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, social influence, and facilitating conditions as predictors of behavioral intention, while trust and information transparency are positioned as moderators. Behavioral intention is translated into an adoption rate as an interface between micro-level behavior and macro-level system dynamics. The System Dynamics model represents feedback, operational capacity, material flows, economic benefits, and environmental performance. The article produces an integrative model design, variable structure, SEM–SD translation mechanism, and policy scenarios for subsequent empirical testing. Since the article is derived from a research proposal, the presented findings are conceptual and methodological rather than empirical claims.
