Rantau Bujur Hulu Village, in the Sungai Tabukan District of North Hulu Sungai Regency, possesses an abundance of local biomass; however, it remains underutilized due to a lack of community knowledge regarding management techniques for materials such as rice straw, water hyacinth, and susupan gunung (Mimosa pigra) (a type of invasive shrub/weed). The accumulation of these weeds-water hyacinth and susupan gunung (Mimosa pigra) along with agricultural waste like rice straw, renders land less efficient and harms the environment. Meanwhile, a heavy reliance on chemical fertilizers leads to soaring production costs. This community service initiative aims to enhance the knowledge, understanding, and skills of the local population in transforming these organic materials into compost. The methods employed included outreach sessions and training on the composting process. The results indicate an average increase in participant understanding of 38.89%; the average level of understanding rose from 39.85% before the intervention to 78.75% afterward. This initiative is expected to support environmentally friendly agriculture by reducing waste and decreasing the use of chemical fertilizers.
